About

the journey, from burnout to thriving

I've been there too.

I spent most of my life doing what nearly everyone is doing — ticking off the checkboxes as quickly as I could, building assets and wealth, all the goodies. I was good at it, and I was convinced I had it all figured out.

Until my own choices and decisions brought that to a halt.

Ten years ago my life turned upside down in one gut-wrenching year. It was absolute hell. I lost almost everything I held dear.

The reckoning

We all lose ourselves in the pursuit and achievement of success — whatever the definition. Eventually, there's a reckoning. For some it happens after achieving so much and realizing there's nothing at the end of the rainbow. For others, it's burning out under the pressure and weight of expectations.

When it happens, it can feel like the loneliest time of your life. You may feel lost, tired or uncertain. Perhaps frustrated, angry and hurt. Or simply empty and broken.

That year taught me incredibly valuable lessons, and I began the long process of rebuilding. I'm grateful for the help of therapy, meditation, breath-work and self-inquiry — I recommend all of them for finding peace whenever you need it.

I'm sharing this so you know relief exists. You don't have to keep bashing your head against a wall.

A turning point

a fire, a conversationthe turn

In recent years I read some research on consciousness that caught my interest. And I had an eye-opening conversation one night with a musician at a friend's party.

That innocuous night proved to be a key turning point. As I followed my curiosity over the next couple of years, I discovered I'd been looking at life from a limited, inherited perspective all along.

It wasn't long before I had a series of what are commonly described as "moments of spiritual awakening." I just call them realizations.

A fresh perspective

Here's what those realizations revealed: our natural state is lasting peace and contentment. Unconditional happiness. We become blind to it through the process of socialization — one concept stacking on top of another, until we're numb to reality.

We end up in a vicious loop, constantly chasing fulfillment, happiness and success that always seems just out of reach. And the pursuit is exactly what masks the source of happiness: your peace of mind, already within.

There's a way out of this limited mindset — to end the chase and return to wholeness. An embodied insight that worked for me, and for others who've tried it. I shared it in an essay I wrote and narrated after my quest for answers — something I could leave my children. A legacy that needs no protection and can be shared freely.

A path forward

I'm grateful for all the experiences that shaped this perspective, however hard and painful they were at the time. Growing up in Kenya. Studying engineering in Canada. A 25-year career across industries and roles, helping people launch and grow their businesses. A supportive family, friends, children and a life partner who all helped me see life through a different lens.

I've made mistakes — small ones that never mattered, and a few big ones that hurt and humbled. Together they taught me how to be kind, gentle, open-hearted and open-minded. To myself and to others.

the life betweenalong the way

Once I perceived the truth about happiness, I started applying it in every moment. And it led me here: to write about what I discovered, to share it freely without expectation, and to be happy no matter what is happening. All I had to do was let go of what I'd been taught to believe, and replace it with the truth I found.

I share this knowledge because it feels less like mine and more like a gift that wants to move.

There is a quiet, deep joy in seeing people realize who they truly are and remember what it feels like to be whole.

the shift
What hides in plain sight becomes blindingly obvious.
The shift only happens when you slow down enough for your scattered attention to come home, to become whole. From that relaxed, alert place, the obvious returns.

This gap between the pointer and the reality is a chasm only you can cross. No one else can step through the doorway between knowing something intellectually and understanding it experientially.

This opportunity — right here, right now, this moment — is what you've worked so hard to realize.

So what does this mean, practically?

We've become habituated to feeling like separate, individual conscious entities — but that is a mistaken concept masking our true universal nature. You are what I am. I am what you are. Only, we can't quite capture its essence in words.

Our details differ — countries, schools, work, religion, culture. But the primacy of consciousness is the same for all: a unified field of universal awareness that appears to become multiple, separate entities formed in matter. Formless, nameless, genderless, universal, undivided, eternal. Peaceful. Content. Whole.

The spontaneous discovery of this changed the meaning of life entirely.

Why it matters

Because applying this eases suffering and gives you peace of mind. Because you deserve to know there's a different way. It isn't the addition of new knowledge — it's the unlearning of certain concepts and the rediscovery of what is, timeless and ever-present.

What I do is direct your attention to the source of your conscious experience: to use your mind to turn within and discover its source; to observe consciousness and its constantly changing identification with what is perceived; and to dissolve, at the root, the cause of your suffering, your seeking, your sense of emptiness.

You are not just a person with a phenomenal existence. You are the source of consciousness being the universe.
